Gonzaga has a lot going for it this season – talent, depth and experience, and they’re well-balanced. They showed all of that, and needed all of it, to win the NIT Season Tip-Off.

As part of this weekend’s big kick off to the Christmas shopping season, yesterday was dubbed Small Business Saturday across the country. The basketball schedule for the day might have qualified under that designation, as few of the biggest names were in action, in part because the big holiday tourneys ended a few days ago. What the day may have lacked in big names, though, it did not lack for stories.

Minnesota’s big challenge is in front of them
Minnesota has had a few challenging games thus far, including in the NIT Season Tip-Off. The Golden Gophers’ big challenge, however, appears to be in their future.

The busy weekend that just passed also included a few games at the National Prep Showcase. Here are a few notes from some of the action early on Friday and Saturday.
Houston is trying to find an identity early on
Houston went on the road and was soundly defeated by Harvard on Tuesday. It’s a game that Kelvin Sampson hopes to take a lot from early in his tenure with a new-look team as they try to find out who they are.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. One of college basketball’s true Thanksgiving traditions got underway once again last night, as the 37th annual Great Alaska Shootout got underway.

LaDontae Henton had a career game on Sunday, and fortunately for him and his Providence teammates, this one was a little different from the last time that happened.

The Big East is getting by just fine. Here is how good the Big East has been so far this year: nine of its 10 teams are so far undefeated. Villanova is 5-0. So are Providence and Creighton. Xavier and Seton Hall are 4-0. Georgetown, St. John’s and Butler are 3-0. Shoot, even DePaul is 2-0.
