Wednesday night had its share of storylines, but chief among them: overtime. One overtime, two OTs, three, take your pick. The night had them all. There were a total of seven games with extra sessions on Wednesday, a night that was marked by close competition in general.
Sunday was the day for a trip a little down the road from Saturday’s destination to check out some prep school action. We take a look at some notes from the day’s games in the Hoop Dreams Mag Prep Classic.
Some college basketball thoughts as we approach the middle of January, conference play is in full session and the chase for NCAA Tournament berths starts to pick up steam:
The Good Sports Invitational was one of three big events in Boston on a busy weekend of basketball. We take a look at some of the game action at the Garden on Saturday.
What a difference a couple days makes. A week ago, there was debate of whether Duke might be as good or better than Kentucky, but the Blue Devils have now lost twice in three days.
Monday night was a chance for any number of national sports networks to provide some interesting college basketball programming. The networks failed the test.
Sunday was not a good day to be a top ten team, especially on the road, as three of them went down and reminded us that nothing in college basketball is guaranteed.
When seeing the game’s score flash today for the first time, the first thought regarding a Louisville/North Carolina game was “wow, that’s a terrific non-conference game, especially in January.”
Conference play is now in full swing, and on Saturday we saw a number of games tell us something about teams and conferences in the early going. In that respect, one conference appears to be standing out right now.
A coach is ready to call it a career at season’s end, and we look at the job he did. Plus an independent gets another nice win, more pieces for LSU, and a light night of game action.
