Wake Forest, Pitt move on – the numbers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Wake Forest ended the Boston College season Tuesday afternoon. The Demon Deacons scored a 92-78 victory to improve to 19-12. Boston College fell to 6-23, ending a campaign on 15 straight losses with the last win over NC State back on January 11.

BC posted an admirable 107 efficiency in the Barclays Center contest. Unfortunately they allowed an extremely generous 126 on the defensive end. The Eagles showed an offensive rebounding advantage of 30-22 percent and cared for the ball with a low turnover rate of 14 percent.

The damage was done on the perimeter, defensively speaking. The Deacons shot 8 of 19 (47 percent) from three. Wake’s sophomore guard Bryant Crawford was instrumental in the victory with a game-high 20 points, including 11 of 12 shooting from the line.

In the final game of the day/evening session, Pitt kept their season going with a 61-60 victory over Georgia Tech. The Panthers are 16-16 while Tech fell to 17-15. In contrast to BC-Wake Forest, the offensive efficiency of the two teams was quite low. Pitt posted a 92, while Tech checked in at 89.

For Josh Pastner’s group, it was a case of poor shooting. Tech managed 18 of 44 (41 percent) from inside the arc. From deep the Yellow Jackets did not have an answer. They shot an icy 4 of 18 for 22 percent. Pitt, a veteran team many feel underachieved this season, placed four in double figures. They were led by senior Micheal Young with 17 points. And a will to keep the Panther’s faint hopes alive for one more day.
