Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis – January 10, 2019

Welcome to the latest edition of Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis. Wednesday night was a wild night of college basketball, so we lead with that but spend time largely on the Big East and Big 12 as they provide us something interesting to talk about.

We start with Houston losing for the first time, which also helps Temple’s NCAA Tournament resume, as well as a wild one in the Big East, where Marquette sent the game to overtime on a miracle and then beat Creighton 106-104. In the latter game, Markus Howard had another line for the ages, scoring a Big East record 53 points on a terrific 15-26 from the field, including 10-14 from deep. It wasn’t a perfect game, but it adds to his legend as he broke his own record of 52 points just over a year ago at Providence.

After that, we stay in the Big East and talk about how Villanova is quietly 3-0, the last team to not lose their first game. With the Wildcats having a couple of notable losses early on, there were questions hanging over them, though some wins since then have calmed things down. Even so, the Big East has been viewed as wide open, and it appears to still be that. But the old guard – the Wildcats – will not go quietly.

We then focus on the Big 12, which looks like it will be a fun conference to watch this season if recent games are any indication. In addition, we look at a big question surrounding Kansas, which is whether or not the Jayhawks can figure out how to best play without big man Udoka Azubuike, who is done for the season.

Finally, we close as usual with some final thoughts that largely look ahead to upcoming games.

We hope you enjoy the podcast and share it with your fellow college basketball fans. Be sure to join us next week for another podcast looking at the state of college basketball.
