Welcome to the latest edition of Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis. It’s our first special podcast of the final days of Championship Week as we mainly look at tournaments Ted is covering in New York.
The spotlight for the past couple of days, especially Wednesday, is on who won’t be at the games the next few days and foreseeable future: fans. By the time Wednesday had ended, basically every conference tournament still going on had a limited fan policy in action, the CBI had been called off for this year, the NCAA Tournament is set to proceed without fans for the moment, and the NBA had suspended its season in light of news that Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert had tested positive for the coronavirus.
As this continues to carry the news, we don’t want to lose sight of who is being robbed the most by this unfortunate situation: the players. They are the biggest losers in the Ivy Leag
ue canceling its tournaments, as well as this taking the attention away from the games. There has been some sentiment about this expressed, and right now there is much unknown about what exactly is behind these decisions because very little has been shared about what the decision-makers know.
In between all of this, we look at the first round games in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and Big East Tournament. In the case of the latter, the lower seeds won both games, and Georgetown and Xavier see frustrating seasons end (for now, at least).
We hope you enjoy the podcast and share it with your fellow college basketball fans. Be sure to tune in again very soon for more on the games played leading up to the NCAA Tournament.
