UNC-Wilmington Assistant Becomes Head Coach At Eastern Washington: Kirk Earlywine, an NCAA Division I assistant coach for 22 years, most recently at UNC-Wilmington, has taken the head coaching position at Eastern Washington. Wofford Point Guard Gibson Withdraws: Drew Gibson, Wofford’s starting point guard, has withdrawn from the NBA Draft and will return to school for his senior season. He averaged 12.8 points per game and led the team with 136 assists. [6/14/07]

Former Tennessee Coach, Ray Mears, Dies: The winningest men’s basketball coach in Tennessee history passed away at age 80. Mears was reportedly battling a long illness. He was 278-112 from 1963-1977 and won three SEC championships. [6/14/07]

BYU Player Switches Schools, Sports: BYU swingman Jordan Cameron will transfer to USC and switch from basketball to football. The 6-5 Cameron was a standout wide receiver at his high school, which is about 50 miles outside Los Angeles. He redshirted his only season at BYU. [6/13/07]
