Some notes from the four games played on Friday at the St. Andrew’s Holiday Classic in Rhode Island.

Wednesday’s contest between St. Mark’s and Lawrence Academy was highly anticipated. It’s safe to say the game lived up to its billing, and the home team pulled it out behind a star guard and excellent support.

For Rhode Island, it’s all about setting the pace of the game. This is a team that wants to run and is clearly at their best when the game is played at a fast pace.

Kevin Willard has done a few things specifically because he has a young team at Iona. The early returns suggest that it’s working, especially as the Gaels picked up a solid road win at Providence.

Bryant hasn’t been able to get much to show for its efforts on the bottom line thus far this season. With a tough stretch ahead and a couple of injuries that may be serious, things may be about to get tougher.

Steadily and without fanfare, Joe Jones has been building Columbia up. Cornell and Harvard have received all the headlines coming out of the Ivy League, but before long Columbia could be getting a lot of them.

Rhode Island continued its good start during the past week, pulling out a few close games to bounce back from a tough road loss the week earlier.

Northeastern lost another close game on Thursday night at Rhode Island. While they are maintaining confidence about as well as they can given the circumstances, frustration is probably mounting to some degree as they head into a long layoff for final exams.
