The day began with an absolute shellacking, one that was as surprising as it was necessary for the winning team. Plus a sweep in the state of Oregon, a Husky is done for the year after a career night, and the third time is not the charm for a now-former Lobo.
A long-running streak of futility has finally come to an end, in what has looked like a rare opportunity for it to happen. Plus a Flyer is grounded for the moment, a Commodore is likely done for the year, and a long-time coach can’t stop competing or winning.
In a game that served as a real opportunity for the home team, Butler went on the road and took care of business in impressive fashion. Plus the Big Ten gets more interesting, an Ivy League rivalry has a similar result, and a few other results of note from a light night of action.
If good things come in threes, college basketball delivered good things in the form of three big overtime games on Thursday night. Plus an early showdown is ahead in one conference, a few other interesting results on the night, and a Husky must sit because of academics.
A Big Ten program that hasn’t been relevant in some time just might be moving back in that direction after all, despite a few earlier misses. Plus the two undefeated teams were both in action, a Big East team gets back on track, and one coach will get to stay in his current job a little longer.
The remarkable work Scott Drew has done at Baylor continues with a nice road win on Tuesday night. Plus some key results in the Big Ten, road teams rule the SEC, and a Big East team is now finding its stride.
In the early going, the standings in one conference look very little like the preseason poll, especially with the lone undefeated team having a nice lead. Plus the Mountaineers win a slugfest, a Blue Devil is out for a while and another ACC player succumbs to a constant source of pain for the season.
