On Sunday, Purdue just further showed that they’re in the ballpark of where many thought they would be before the season. Plus a two-team race is emerging in one conference, and the stage has been set for an upcoming showdown between undefeated teams in another conference.
In the midst of conference play, a big set of non-conference games grabbed center stage for the day. It was a close series and home teams dominated, and as it turns out, we will have more of it in the future.
On a typically busy Saturday of action, one set of games grabbed a lot of attention for understandable reasons. They were hardly alone, though, and we have notes on many of those games right here.
There’s a lot of basketball left to play, but the already tight MAAC got a little tighter on Friday night. Plus a Big Ten team takes another hit, a Blue Devil may return, and more comments on officiating draw a response from a league office.
One of the sport’s best rivalries in recent years didn’t deliver what many expected, but Belmont’s win over Murray State was impressive nonetheless. Also, Hofstra keeps nation’s longest streak going, Wofford/Samford dandy, Michigan State shows it’s a top-level Final Four contender and Texas State among teams having quietly outstanding years.
In our latest podcast, we start with the new team atop the polls, then some notes from around the country and a look at a number of conferences, including one with a unique scheduling arrangement about to come into play.
A Big East team went on the road really needing a win in a place they had never won and where few road teams do. Plus a close call in the SEC, road wins in the Big Ten, and a topsy-turvy night in one of the best mid-major conferences.
On Tuesday night, we saw two teams in the Midwest continue to go in opposite directions. Plus a couple of buzzer-beaters, some ACC and SEC games that didn’t require them, and a Commodore will be gone as expected.
North Carolina continues to defy common knowledge, this time raining threes to drill Virginia Tech. Kansas survives (again), Michigan State wins Big Ten showdown, plus Western Kentucky and Marshall play a dandy in Conference USA.
