The independents are dead. Long live the independents. NJIT’s 72-70 win at Michigan will go down as the biggest upset of this season and one of the biggest in a long time. This one is going to remembered for a long, long time.

Ah, it’s started already. We’re still a couple weeks away from final exams for most schools, a time when especially it seems like highly favored schools need to pay a little extra attention in games that they should win easily. But we saw several teams have more trouble than expected in games Tuesday night that all expected to be blowouts.

The Big East is getting by just fine. Here is how good the Big East has been so far this year: nine of its 10 teams are so far undefeated. Villanova is 5-0. So are Providence and Creighton. Xavier and Seton Hall are 4-0. Georgetown, St. John’s and Butler are 3-0. Shoot, even DePaul is 2-0.

Arizona shows it has the potential to win a national title
Arizona took home the NIT Season Tip-Off title in a great game against Duke on Friday. The Wildcats also showed that as some expect, they could be playing for a bigger title later this season with their talent, experience and chemistry.
Baylor is clearly third in the Big 12
Baylor was thought by some to be a Final Four or national title contender. With four losses to Kansas and Missouri, the Bears are quite clearly not the best in their own conference right now.
