Boston College head coach Steve Donahue is still taking a long view with his team, and the long-term outcome matters most. Still, wins help in getting there, and pulling out close wins help, something the Eagles did on Wednesday after going to Charleston and losing three straight.
The second day of the 2012 Charleston Classic is in the books and the final matchups for Sunday are set. Here are some quick hitters from the four games played on Friday.
Boston College looked nothing like last season’s team in several ways in Sunday’s 84-70 win over Florida International. This team will certainly be better, as expected, but now there’s something to go on for that idea.
A year after being about as young as a team can be, Boston College should be significantly improved. At the very least, a lot more is known about this team than a year ago at this time.

Let’s give Steve Donahue credit for what he did get out of this young Boston College team. The youth of this team has been well-chronicled. The big question now that the season is over is just what there is to build on for next season.
Boston College looked like a confident team on Wednesday night. With that and some excellent three-point shooting early on, they got a big win against Florida State that shows how they have developed and will only add to their confidence.
There’s a big surprise near the top of the ACC standings. With only Duke sporting an undefeated record, one team in the logjam at 2-1 is the very young Boston College Eagles after two straight home wins.
The first game after Christmas was decidedly a mixed bag for Boston College, more so than one might expect from simply looking at the scoreboard and seeing a 21-point loss. Now the underdog in the matchup with Harvard, the Eagles came in with three straight wins before the break and weren’t expected to win the game by virtually anyone outside of their locker room.
Boston College has come back from the Christmas break in a better place than they were before it. In fact, it’s better than where they were over a week before their last game, as their 83-73 win over Sacred Heart last Wednesday was their third straight.
