Just a few years after realignment changed the Big East immensely, the conference put forth a terrific season all the way around, and looks to be in great shape. A national champion led the way, but there is much more behind them.

Seton Hall 82 DePaul 77: Courtside observations
Seton Hall needed a win to stop the bleeding, and DePaul came to town having won three road games in conference play. The Pirates did a lot of thins right to get the result they needed.

If Friday’s open of the college basketball season was a celebration (even if an unsatisfying one, with its smorgasbord of lousy guarantee games and non-Division I opponents), then Saturday must’ve been the hangover. At the least, the second day of the season is a reality check. It’s a reminder of not only how poorly college hoops starts its year, but also how a current attempt to address it gets it all wrong.
