It’s not just the big games a team wins; it’s how they play in the games immediately after, as well as in games throughout the season that they aren’t expected to lose. In that regard, Saturday was not a good day for a few teams who have had some big moments this year.
An entertaining game is unfortunately followed by a very less-than-entertaining melee. Plus a home team takes over late in the Atlantic 10, cancer hits the basketball world again, and a Tiger’s career may be in jeopardy.
Polls do matter. A case could be made that the All-America first team is already wrapped up right now. And it’s not at all hard to envision Oklahoma and Kansas playing two or three more times this year, including perhaps again in April.
For all the first month of the 2015-16 season has brought us-the beginnings of a terrific national player of the year race; upstarts like Monmouth and Arkansas-Little Rock seemingly coming from nowhere; coaches suddenly releasing the shackles on offenses-one area where the offerings have seemed a little thin is buzzer-beating finishes.
The heating up of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge was rightfully the main event heading into Tuesday night, but several incredible individual performances also became a story.
