It’s rare when we see TV networks do something even remotely outside the box when it comes to scheduling, so yesterday’s announcement of the Big 12/SEC Challenge moving to January qualifies as big news.

We’re still a couple weeks away from final exams for most schools, a time when especially it seems like highly favored schools need to pay a little extra attention in games that they should win easily. Determining who the very best teams in Conference USA were last year is like trying to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. Perhaps only Mr. Owl could sort that out in a league that is just way too big because of the chase for football money.
