In the NIT semifinals, the team with the better first half won both games, though one had to battle back after blowing the lead. Plus another championship game matchup is set, a very expected coaching change, and one team might not gain a top recruit next season.
A special year for Boulevard rivals in Nashville is still going for Lipscomb, which in dramatic fashion clinched its first-ever trip to New York City for the NIT semifinals..
Half of the field headed to New York in the NIT is known, and both could use this as a springboard into next season. Plus more action in the CIT, coaching changes take center stage and more players are on the move as well.
Monday night saw still more coaching changes due to firings, as well as a position still on hold at Nebraska. Also, Colorado advances in the NIT and Coastal Carolina drills West Virginia in CBI.
The best game of Sunday was one that involved coaches who know each other very, very well, but the game stood out on its own. Plus a couple of blowouts, redemption for one conference, and a big day for another one.
A day that started with two dandies at the same site couldn’t build off that beginning as most teams cruised. Plus a Blue Devil is likely out, a Tiger gets re-injured, and a few games in other tournaments fly under the radar.
After a quiet Thursday, upsets came into play in a noticeable way on Friday. Plus a couple of top seeds get a push for a while, Buffalo owns a state on the hardwood, and the SEC leads the way in coaching changes.
Arizona State and St. John’s hardly put on a basketball clinic Wednesday night, but the Sun Devils advanced and now try to be the next team to make an NCAA Tournament run from the First Four. Plus, NIT, CIT and CBI recaps, including Brown continuing a historic season.
Tuesday saw the end of the tenures of a pair of Philadelphia basketball institutions. One was known to be imminent; the other was not. Also, Belmont & Fairleigh Dickinson get their first NCAA tourney wins, and NIT, CBI and CIT recaps.
The day after Selection Sunday was conspicuously light on news this year. It did include a few coaching changes, plus the first Division I postseason tournament tipping off with NJIT trying for another run in the College Insider tourney.
