The field of 68 is set at last, after much discussion about the bubble, and there is much to think about from top seeds on to who didn’t make it. Plus a few last championship games, some injury updates, and other postseason tournaments announce their fields as well.
College Basketball Tonight returns, and in the first show of the year, we break down the NCAA Tournament field with a couple of guests, and also take a few minutes to look at the NIT and CBI.
Someone in Iowa City has quite the clutch gene, and he buried Indiana on Friday night the way he buried another team not long ago. Plus a bit of clarity emerges in one league race, very little in another, and suspensions are in the news that don’t just include a player.
In our first podcast in the postseason, we look back one more time on the NCAA Tournament, which was just what we needed at this time. We also look at the NIT, CBI and CIT, as well as important transactions with players leaving early for the NBA Draft and coaching changes.
With the NIT in the books, a final wrap-up with news and notes is in order, including the All-Tournament team and thoughts from both head coaches who were in the final.
After another impressive performance in the final game of the 2018 National Invitation Tournament, the springboard has officially been set for Penn State next season.
The NIT Final was just the second all-time meeting between the participating schools, and the prior one occurred in the same arena. The end result was the same as the first, and it was very similar to the winning team’s most recent game in that it was a convincing win.
In the second NIT semifinal, Penn State took care of Mississippi State in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score might imply, and it was a double-digit win.
Utah and Western Kentucky played a close game for most of their NIT semifinal contest, with the Utes pulling it out late.
The NIT championship game matchup is set, and the semifinals could hardly have been more different. Plus coaching changes dominate the other news, including who is staying, and another star-studded field will be in Maui in another year.
