One of the last games of the night was all we could hope for and more, and also leaves one hopeful about future matchups between the two teams. Plus more tournaments get going, a straw breaks the camel’s back with transfer waivers, and a Wildcat is gone from the program.
With a little more of a sample size, we can now say that one conference is showing some signs of a real resurgence in the early going. Plus we can further over-analyze one team that much has been expected from, another win for one team is another good sign, and a few other noteworthy results from the day.
The Big East appears to have met its match in the early going in the Gavitt Tipoff Games, narrowly avoiding a sweep on the evening. Plus a good win in Richmond, another stinker in Tampa, and a good road win for a Big 12 team.
For the first time in 15 years, the Big 12 champion was not Kansas. The league was once again atop conference rankings, though, led by a program whose rise the past couple years very nearly resulted in a national title.
Marquette looked in control at Seton Hall before a stunning finish. The Pirates were the rare team to post a big win Wednesday while a number of others took head-scratching losses. Plus, Horizon, NEC and OVC tourneys rolling.
Virginia slowly pulled away from Virginia Tech in the second half on the road Monday night, doing so in a most Virginia-like way, slowly and in a most satisfying way for the winners. Also, Kansas State takes care of business on the road, and TCU’s NCAA tourney chances running into trouble.
In the midst of conference play, a big set of non-conference games grabbed center stage for the day. It was a close series and home teams dominated, and as it turns out, we will have more of it in the future.
Kansas State appears to be back, and so is the Big 12 we’ve come to know over recent years. Plus, double ejections in Tulsa/Connecticut, South Carolina pulls out another in the SEC, Houston keeps rolling, VCU back on the rise and more.
Three games on Tuesday told us that the Big 12 should be fun to watch. Plus a not-so-surprising team is undefeated early, another conference in the Midwest looks like a fun race to watch, and a small surprise undefeated early on out west.
As the fun of in-season tournaments largely comes to an end, it’s a great day for one particular conference. Plus one team that beat the champs keeps winning, as does a team that has had some potential and might be ready to turn a corner again.
