In getting the first win of the season and the first career win for head coach Mitch Henderson, Princeton certainly did some things well on Saturday. But there was also plenty to take away for future work from their 61-53 win over Buffalo that wasn’t as close as the final score indicated.
A few quick hitters that include thoughts on a couple of coaching changes, an Eagle who might stay in the draft, and some school changes at the high school level.
Here’s a quick update of recent coaching moves and players’ decisions about whether they’ll be returning to school or heading to the NBA Draft.
Brown’s win over Princeton on Saturday night didn’t happen in a vacuum, and it makes the Ivy League race for the top a little more interesting.
The Princeton offense is well-known. It’s been talked about a great deal in recent years – one might even say it’s been discussed ad nauseum – and misconceptions about it abound. Less talked about is the defense, but right now that’s the big reason why Princeton is on it is on a roll, improving to 3-0 in the Ivy League with a 56-53 win at Harvard.
Quietly and without fanfare, Sydney Johnson has Princeton on the way back to contention. The Tigers aren’t getting much pub in Ivy League circles, but that could change before long.
