Part 3 of our reflection, research and review of Selection Sundays and the NCAA Tournament bubble over the last 35 years looks year-by-year at 1995-99. The stretch saw conference champions like Manhattan and Miami (Ohio) rewarded in 1995, a shift towards mid-pack majors as the 90s drew to a close but also surges by a trio of Midwestern leagues.
After a run of frustrating Selection Sundays, this year’s NCAA Tournament selection committee did much improved work, even as there is still more work to do.
On Selection Sunday morning, here are our one-time only projections of who will be in the field, who won’t, who should be, who shouldn’t and why.
This year’s NCAA Tournament selection on paper appears to have as many variables as can be remembered in some time. Here are some of the storylines of the selections we’ll be following as the bracket is unveiled Sunday night.

Even when there was no reason to be outraged, people were about the results of the NCAA’s bracket preview. Their misplaced anger shows the continued need for discussion of metrics-on all sides.
As a whole, this year’s selections for the 2017 NCAA Tournament were not filled with a ton of injustices in selection. Before handing out bouquets, though, it must be noted: that does not mean they were without significant errors.
