On Sunday, Purdue just further showed that they’re in the ballpark of where many thought they would be before the season. Plus a two-team race is emerging in one conference, and the stage has been set for an upcoming showdown between undefeated teams in another conference.
As conference play gets going, the Big 12 stands out on its opening night with some road wins. Plus an old Big East power starts off well while another has to rally, two undefeated teams carry on, and a Tar Heel is out for a little time.
Saturday was a wild day full of Power 5 teams losing to mid-majors, with one struggling conference being the worst offender. Plus a rivalry game tells us something about the winner, a big man returns to action, and one undefeated team falls at the buzzer while another one beats a good road team.
After Saturday’s loss, what do we make of Kentucky at this point given that they have lost to their toughest opponents while beating up on worse teams? Plus lots of rivalry games were on tap, while one school couldn’t travel for their game and saw it canceled.
As the fun of in-season tournaments largely comes to an end, it’s a great day for one particular conference. Plus one team that beat the champs keeps winning, as does a team that has had some potential and might be ready to turn a corner again.
For the second time in three days, a big-time matchup for a tournament championship was at least as good as advertised. Plus several more tournament final matchups are set, a concerning development in Nashville, and a first loss of the season in a blowout.
Texas picked up its marksmanship and got a career performance from Kerwin Roach in a signature win over North Carolina. Plus, Thanksgiving tourney action including Virginia & Wisconsin advancing at Atlantis, surprises by Fresno State and Hawaii and more.
Just a few years after realignment changed the Big East immensely, the conference put forth a terrific season all the way around, and looks to be in great shape. A national champion led the way, but there is much more behind them.
There have been too many teams this season that have spent as much time in the news for off-court reasons as their play. Arizona was in the news again for the first on Thursday, and very nearly for the second two, and neither for good things.
With the regular season winding down, the picture in the ACC is getting clearer, with help from Wednesday night. Plus warm weather is a problem for one court, history could be made in the Big 12 soon, a first conference title is happening, and a Trojan will move on.
