You may have forgotten about one of the modern day blueblood programs, and for somewhat understandable reason, but they reminded us that they are still around on Sunday. Plus the road is the great equalizer for one powerhouse program, a couple of mid-major races remain hotly contested, and a tie is broken in the Patriot League for now.

So much for any talk about one team possibly going undefeated, and given that their conference is better than some think despite its downward trend, there are teams capable of beating them anyway. Plus no surprises in one big conference, while it was a good day to be a road team in another, and a mild surprise in an academic league opener.

2017-18 MVC Post-Mortem
Its top program moved on, but the Missouri Valley Conference persevered like it always does-and in fact came out even stronger, led by Loyola Chicago’s fantastic season.

Last year was the end of a storied run in the Missouri Valley Conference, and the 2016-17 season was too, as Wichita State concluded a 68-year run in the league.
