Like most of the year anyway but especially now at the end of December, this is a time when football traditionally takes center stage in the Southeastern Conference. Thursday also marked the open of the conference season for SEC basketball as well, though, and an entertaining night it was.

Middle Tennessee State carved out a place in college basketball history in March when it posted one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history by knocking out Michigan State. This year’s Blue Raiders are not the same team as last year’s group, though. They very well might be better.

2015-16 SEC Post-Mortem

A college basketball season like 2015-16 deserved better than the past few rounds of the NCAA Tournament had provided, and Monday night a thoroughly enjoyable year received a fitting sendoff with one of the great Final Four championship games in the sport’s history.

NCAA selection committee must learn from Vanderbilt mistake
The last we saw of Vanderbilt this season is bound to leave a sour taste in the mouths of not just its fans, but virtually everyone who follows college basketball and expected so much of the Commodores this year. Just the same, it should also leave NCAA Tournament selection committee members with a serious case of bitter beer face, too.
